Rabat – Morocco’s tourism industry is celebrating an extraordinary achievement, with 15.9 million tourist arrivals recorded by the end of November 2024, the Ministry of Tourism announced in a press release.

This marks an impressive 20% increase compared to the same period in 2023, adding 2.6 million more visitors to the country’s tourism landscape.

The surge is fueled by a significant rise in international visitors, which increased by 23%, adding 1.5 million arrivals, according to the statement. In addition, Moroccan Residents Abroad (MRE) showed strong engagement in visiting their home country, with a 17% growth contributing an extra 1.1 million tourists.

In November alone, Morocco welcomed 1.3 million travelers, reflecting a 31% growth over the same month in 2023.

Morocco’s Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor expressed her pride in the achievement, saying: “This is an unprecedented milestone in the dynamic history of Moroccan tourism. These remarkable figures prove the impact of our roadmap and represent a major step towards our goal of positioning Morocco among the top 15 global tourist destinations.”

Ammor took to Linkedin to say that her ministry “planned to hold off on sharing figures until the end of December,” but they “couldn’t help but announce this historic milestone with everyone!”

Morocco’s record-breaking numbers are the result of targeted efforts by the Ministry of Tourism and the National Tourism Office (ONMT). Key initiatives have included forging partnerships with international airlines to establish new routes connecting Moroccan cities to destinations worldwide. These partnerships have made Morocco more accessible for travelers.

In addition, the ONMT has launched several marketing campaigns and participated in global tourism events to promote Morocco as a must-visit destination. These efforts have spotlighted the country’s culture, history, natural beauty, and  hospitality.

The North African country has climbed 10 spots in the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) global ranking of tourism revenues., rising from 41st to 31st place.
