Casablanca – The Moroccan-American Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange (MACECE) hosted the much-anticipated Fulbright Futures event today.

With over 60 participants, including alumni from Fulbright’s Study Grant and Joint Supervision programs, the event featured engaging workshops, expert panels, and networking sessions designed to inspire and connect participants.

In an interview with Morocco World News, Dr. Rebecca Geffner, Executive Director of MACECE, described the significance of the event.

“Today’s event is called Fulbright Futures, and it’s a gathering of our Moroccan alumni from the last five years who either completed a master’s degree in the United States or were there to conduct doctoral research,” she said.

Attendees were  treated to opening remarks by Geffner alongside Nick Barnett, the U.S. Embassy Rabat’s Public Affairs Counselor, who talked about the power of cultural exchange in shaping personal and professional journeys.

Bridging experiences and opportunities

Discussions tackled pressing topics like reverse cultural shock and reintegrating into Morocco’s professional landscape post-Fulbright. High-profile alumni like Nezha Saber; Deputy CEO of Upline Corporate Finance, and Ismail Douiri; Co-CEO of Attijariwafa Bank, shared insights on career development, while sessions on Morocco’s entrepreneurial ecosystem provided practical guidance for launching ventures.

Fulbright alumni talked with MWN about the cultural impact of their journeys. Grace Mariana Rector, a former teaching assistant at Hassan I university in Settat, recounted her transformative relationship with Morocco during her Fulbright exchange.

“This was actually my fifth time coming to Morocco when I did my Fulbright experience. The first time was when I was 15 years old, and I kept coming back. The culture never fails to surprise me — the generosity of Moroccans. I think I didn’t realize how important families are until I came here,” she said.

Fostering networks, driving impact

The event culminated in a vibrant networking reception attended by the U.S. Ambassador Puneet Talwar and Moroccan Minister of Economic Inclusion, Younes Sekkouri.

Their speeches covered Fulbright’s role in fostering global collaboration and local change. Alumni connected with corporate leaders, industry experts, and peers, furthering MACECE’s mission to empower individuals as changemakers in their fields.

A legacy of empowerment

Fulbright Futures was an opportunity to showcase the program’s commitment to education, cultural exchange, and leadership. By inspiring alumni to build networks and explore new opportunities, the event reinforced Fulbright’s enduring impact on Morocco’s future.

The success of Fulbright Futures leaves no doubt: the next generation of Moroccan and U.S.  leaders are ready to drive change and make a lasting impact, both back home and abroad.
