Rabat – Morocco’s National Motorway Company (ADM) has issued safety advice for drivers traveling during the upcoming one-week school holiday, which coincides with a busy weekend.

ADM released a statement warning road users that traffic on the country’s highways is expected to be heavy during peak times.

The company specifically noted the peak hours to be Friday, December 6, between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. and the following day, Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. It also advised caution on Sunday, December 15 between 4 p.m. and 1 p.m. as travelers return from the holiday.

ADM recommended several measures for highway users to ensure safety and avoid accidents during these busy periods, including planning one’s journey in advance and checking real-time traffic updates using ADMTRAFIC application.

The company also urged travelers to stay informed about weather conditions, especially if there is strong wind, rain, or fog, as well as advised them to take breaks every two hours of driving to rest and stay alert.

In addition, the statement urged drivers to check their vehicle’s tires to ensure they are in good condition and to only use the emergency lane in cases of absolute necessity.

The upcoming school holiday will take place from December 8 to December 15. School holidays are usually a time when accidents increase due to the high volume of vehicles on the road.

According to the Moroccan Road Safety Agency (NARSA), the country sees an average of 3,600 road accident fatalities and 150,000 injuries each year, resulting in more than MAD 20 billion in material damages.
