Rabat – The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) announced on Monday that a heatwave with an “orange” alert level is set to sweep across various provinces in Morocco from Tuesday to Friday, with temperatures ranging between 39°C and 47°C.
DGM said that temperatures are expected to range between 41°C and 45°C on Tuesday in the provinces of Figuig, Jerada, Zagora, Tinghir, Errachidia, and Tata.
Meanwhile, temperatures are set to hover between 39°C and 42°C from Wednesday to Thursday in the provinces of Ouezzane, Guercif, Taourirt, Oujda-Angad, Jerada, Figuig, Boulemane, Sefrou, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Taza, Fez, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Youssoufia, and Ouarzazate.
Temperatures are expected to further increase in certain provinces from Wednesday to Friday, reaching between 42°C and 47°C. This includes Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, Kelaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Khenifra, Zagora, Tinghir, Errachidia, Taroudant, Tata, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, and Aousserd. These regions are forecasted to experience some of the highest temperatures during this heatwave period.
Authorities advise taking necessary precautions to protect from the extreme heat, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and monitoring updates from local authorities.
During such extreme heatwaves, people often seek relief by heading to coastal areas and beaches. Moroccan beaches are starting to become packed as residents try to escape the scorching temperatures.
