Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment warned today that some roadways in the country may experience traffic disruptions due to heavy snowfalls and thunderstorms, as forecasted by Morocco’s meteorological office, starting Friday.

The ministry urged passengers to postpone their travels through the provinces affected by the weather alert during this period, “unless there is a force majeure.”

The ministry also called citizens to avoid traveling at night, and prepare by checking the vehicle’s mechanical condition, including the battery, brakes, lighting, tire pressure, and windshield wipers.

It further called on people to remain vigilant, especially on sections of roads that may be flooded, particularly low points and areas crossing dry riverbeds and flood channels, advising passengers to avoid driving over submerged fords during floods.

The statement also urged citizens to not exceed speed limits and refrain from overtaking or making abrupt maneuvers, emphasizing maintaining a safe distance between vehicles.

The ministry also called on drivers to respect traffic signs and adhere to the instructions of local authorities.

The ministry’s warning came after the weather office forecasted heavy snowfall at elevations of over 1,500 meters, with snow accumulation ranging between 25 and 60 centimeters in several provinces, including Ifrane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Midelt, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Guercif, Sefrou, Taza, Boulemane, and Khenifra.

Al Haouz, Ourazazate, Tinghir, Chichaoua, and Taroudant will also be affected.

Heavy thunderstorms, accompanied by hail, and rainfall ranging from 25 and 130 millimeters, are expected in several provinces, including Tangier Asilah, Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Al Hoceima, M’diq-Fnideq, Ouezzane, Kenitra, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Taza, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Khenifra, Essaouira, and Safi.

The same weather condition will affect a list of other provinces, including Agadir Ida Ou Tanane, Taroudant, and Khemisset.

Strong winds are forecast in Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Tangier, Assilah, larache, Fahs Anjra, Tetouan, M’diq and Fnideq, Guercif, Sefrou, Ifrane, Boulemane, El Hajeb, Taza, Meknes, Kenitra, Khemisset, Rabat, Skhirate-Temara, Sale,  Benslimane, mediouna, Sidi Bennour, El Jdida, Berrechid, Settat, Mohammedi, Nouaceur, Casablanca, and Youssoufia.

Marrakech, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Rehamna, Safi, Ouarzazate, Taourirt, Figuig, Jerada, Zagora, Tinghir, Midelt, Errachidia, and Tata are also among the provinces that will experience strong winds from Friday night to Monday.
