Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Morocco’s national carrier, is increasing its offerings for the upcoming summer season. The airline anticipates a significant rise in passenger demand and has implemented a plan to address this.
RAM’s strategy involves expanding its network and boosting seat capacity. The airline is offering over 6.5 million seats across more than 90 destinations spanning four continents. This represents a growth of over 300,000 seats compared to last summer.
A significant portion of the increased capacity caters to European destinations. Nearly half of the total seats (over 3.2 million) are allocated to Europe, with 671 weekly flights connecting 37 European destinations to 11 Moroccan airports. RAM has also increased seat availability for North America (13%) and the Middle East (19%).
Africa remains a focus for RAM, with 1.3 million seats offered, representing a 19% increase. This serves 28 destinations on the continent with 271 weekly flights.
Notably, RAM is strengthening its presence in Rotterdam with three new direct routes to Tangier, Oujda, and Nador in response to demand from Moroccan residents in the Netherlands. Additionally, three new routes will connect Casablanca directly to Abuja, Manchester, and Naples.
These actions align with broader trends in Moroccan air travel. Both Casablanca and Rabat airports have witnessed a rise in demand for landing and takeoff slots from multiple airlines.
The Ministry of Transport reports a 16.2% increase in slot requests at Mohammed V Airport compared to summer 2023. Similarly, Rabat-Salé Airport has seen a substantial 88% increase in slot requests for the season.
Moroccan authorities are implementing measures to handle the anticipated passenger influx at airports. These measures include strengthening services, increasing reception capacity, and improving infrastructure.
Notably, other airlines are also capitalizing on Morocco’s growing tourism industry. Binter Canarias has reopened its summer route between Tangier and Gran Canaria, offering more seats compared to last year.
Additionally, Air Arabia Morocco has established a new airbase at Rabat-Salé Airport, introducing new routes to popular European destinations.
