Rabat – A recent incident in Fez has reignited frustration over the behavior of taxi drivers in Morocco, following a viral video of a Moroccan teenager in tears after being mistreated by a driver.

The young man took to social media to express his anger after a taxi driver refused to give him change for a MAD 100 note, ultimately causing him to lose a work order.

According to the teen, who was working in Aabaya delivery, the driver continuously drove him around instead of handing over the change. As a result, the delay led to the cancellation of the order he was supposed to deliver, impacting both his earnings and credibility with customers.

This case sheds light on a long-standing issue in Fez and other Moroccan cities, where taxi drivers are frequently reported for mistreating passengers by overcharging, and refusing to take customers to their desired destinations.

Many passengers complain of being stranded as drivers pick and choose routes based on personal convenience rather than duty. This is on top of the fact that passengers of InDrive ride shares have reported fearing for their safety due to taxis continuously getting in fights with the ride-hailing drivers.

The problem has become a daily struggle for commuters, especially those relying on taxis as their primary mode of transport. Stories of drivers refusing short-distance rides, demanding excessive fares, or insisting on multiple passengers before starting a trip have become all too common.

With rising public frustration, many Moroccans are calling for stricter regulations and better accountability for taxi drivers to ensure fair and respectful treatment of passengers.

The viral video has once again brought the debate to the forefront, urging officials to address the widespread arrogance of some taxi drivers who continue to disregard passenger rights in Morocco.
