Mehdi Harfi is close to joining the German Bundesliga, with St. Pauli set to seal the deal for the budding Moroccan striker – despite much interest from a host of top European clubs.
According to Africafoot, St. Pauli have already struck a pre-contract agreement with the 20-year-old, and the deal is expected to be finalised before the end of the current season. His contract with Toulouse runs until June 2025, but it seems unlikely he’ll extend it, with the German club set to snap him up on a four-year contract.
While Harfi has only netted three goals this season, his potential is clear, and several clubs have been tracking him. But it’s St. Pauli who appear to have won the race, beating off competition from some of Europe’s biggest names.
Born in Mérignac, France, Harfi began his journey at FCE Mérignac-Arlac before making the leap to the FC Girondins de Bordeaux academy. At Bordeaux, he quickly made a name for himself, scoring 15 goals for the U19 side over two seasons.
Harfi earned a professional contract with Bordeaux, but limited first-team opportunities saw him move to Toulouse FC in April 2023. Since joining, he’s played in the club’s reserve team in the National 3 league, scoring three goals in 15 appearances.
The young forward earned a call-up to the Morocco U20 national team in September 2023 and marked his debut with a goal. His reputation continues to grow, and more opportunities with Morocco’s senior team could be on the horizon.
Standing at 1.83 meters, Harfi is known for his versatility and can play as a winger or a center-forward, using his physical presence, agility, and technical ability to cause problems for defenders.
