Rabat – Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally (RN) parliamentary group, strongly criticized the court’s decision to ban her from running in elections for five years.
She called the ruling a “nuclear bomb” against her political career and accused the judicial system of trying to stop her from winning the 2027 presidential election.
Le Pen was found guilty of misusing public funds in the case of European Parliament assistants. The court sentenced her to five years of ineligibility with immediate effect, meaning she can no longer run for any election during this period.
She remains a member of parliament but she will not be able to participate in future elections, including the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking to fellow RN members in the National Assembly, Le Pen said, “If they are using such a powerful weapon against us, it is because we are close to winning.” She vowed to fight the ruling and has already announced her intention to appeal.
Jordan Bardella, president of the RN, also reacted angrily, accusing the judges of acting unfairly. “This is the tyranny of judges. They are denying the rule of law,” he said. Bardella insisted that nothing would stop their movement from seeking power.
Le Pen’s appeal process may take time. Experts predict that a new trial could take place in 2026, with a final ruling possibly coming just months before the presidential election.
In response to the court’s decision, the RN has launched a petition to “save democracy and support Marine.” The party is also organizing demonstrations and distributing leaflets across the country to rally support for Le Pen.
“The court’s decision is a direct attack on voters’ freedom,” Le Pen said. “Forcing voters to choose another candidate is a disgrace. No other country operates this way.”
