Rabat – Moroccan police have denied that the perpetrator of a heinous crime in Ben Ahmed, a town in the Casablanca-Settat region, also killed a 12-year-old girl.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) rejected the claims made in a video published by a news website. The video notably shows a person alleging that the suspect, who was arrested for killing a man in the town, had recently committed a similar act against a 12-year-old girl.
Yet investigations revealed that the suspect’s reported murder of a teenage girl is a false accusation that likely sought to undermine citizens’ sense of security, the DGSN statement noted.
“Security services in Ben Ahmeed confirmed that no incident involving the murder of a young girl had been recorded,” it stressed, noting that police also arrested the man who made the false accusation on Saturday evening.
Several recounts were shared on social media after police arrested a man in his 50s for his alleged involvement in the killing of a victim in the same town earlier this month.
The arrest came after local authorities opened a judicial investigation following the discovery of human remains in the restrooms attached to the Grand Mosque in the city.
“Human remains, including bones and limbs, were found wrapped in plastic bags in the restrooms,” said the statement.
The wife of the victim said her husband never came back after he took his daughter to school.
“He told me he was going out for a walk,” the wife said, noting that her husband did not know the perpetrator.
“He was just a day laborer. He worked wherever he could find work. He went to pray at the mosque, that’s all. He was the sole support of our family, I have no one left,” she explained.
The suspect was identified as Said, a 54 local who was known for “alarming behavioral disorders,” the news website Le360 wrote.
He had been admitted twice to psychiatric hospital in Berrechid, a local source told the website, noting he was also unstable and angry and sometimes threatened mosque queers.
Further investigations by the local police uncovered more human remains along with blood-stained clothing and belongings of the victim at the suspect’s home, the DGSN reported, pledging to make more efforts to shed more light on this case.
