Rabat – Morocco and France on Saturday signed a bilateral agreement aiming to strengthen cultural and cinematic collaboration.

The partnership, which aims to strengthen cultural ties, was signed by Morocco’s Minister of Culture Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid and his French counterpart Rachida Dati at the Cannes Film Festival to strengthen cultural ties.

The ministers convened at the festival to explore ways to enhance cooperation in the area of culture, particularly in cinema and cultural heritage preservation.

During the meeting, Bensaid emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral efforts to protect cultural heritage from illicit appropriation.

In addition, he briefed Dari on Morocco’s various initiatives in cultural preservation, both tangible and intangible, and the country’s active role within UNESCO and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The discussions concluded with a mutual agreement to collaborate within UNESCO to combat cultural heritage theft. Both sides also agreed to exchange visits to further boost cultural cooperation.

Following the talks, a bilateral agreement was signed to facilitate joint film production and exchange between Moroccan and French filmmakers.

It also aims to establish a joint committee between the Moroccan Cinematographic Center and its French counterpart to oversee the implementation of this collaboration.

The goal is to streamline procedures and enhance cooperation in order to preserve cultural heritage and promote cinematic projects.

Minister Bensaid also visited the Moroccan pavilion at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which features a strong presence of Moroccan filmmakers.
