Rabat- In a recent development that is set to change the experience for disabled Moroccans, the Government Council has officially approved a new draft decree that focuses on the issuance of disability cards.
This initiative, which took place in a meeting in Rabat, is spearheaded by the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, Aawatif Hayar, and aligns with the framework law No. 97.13 aimed at safeguarding and advancing the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Mustapha Baitas, government spokesperson and Minister Delegate responsible for relations withParliament, highlighted the project’s progressive implementation during a press briefing following the Council meeting.
After a prolonged five-year anticipation, Hayar has announced the imminent launch of a special card tailored for individuals with disabilities in Morocco, seeking to bolster the support for this community.
This groundbreaking endeavor is supported by a substantial budget of MAD 500 million, with a significant allocation of MAD 200 million towards the enhancement of over 80 social and paramedical centers.
The special handicap card, the pivotal component of this initiative, ensures that the holder gets the benefit of financial aid to address their diverse needs comprehensively.
The holder of this card will also benefit from expanded coverage of medical treatments under mandatory health insurance, social support programs with financial assistance, employment prospects in the private sector, and reduced transportation costs, including discounts that may lead to free transportation services.
Eligible individuals in Morocco grappling with physical or mental disabilities can apply for the special handicap card with a disability certificate.
In order to apply, individuals should follow the instructions and submit their applications online at the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family’s website. The ministry established the digital platform to streamline and expedite the application process, ensuring accessibility and efficiency for all applicants.
The introduction of the special handicap card in Morocco marks a significant stride towards enhancing the welfare and support for individuals with disabilities.
As this initiative not only extends financial aid, but also paves the way for improved healthcare, social assistance, employment opportunities, and transportation benefits, it serves as a crucial step towards a more inclusive and supportive environment for the disabled community in Morocco.
