Rabat – The United States is actively lobbying foreign governments to boycott a United Nations conference on Palestine, jointly sponsored by France and Saudi Arabia, according to a leaked US diplomatic cable obtained by Reuters.

The event, scheduled for June 17–20 in New York, focuses on pushing a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

The US cable, sent to various countries on Tuesday, explicitly warns against attending the conference, reportedly framing participation as “anti-Israel” and against US foreign policy interests.

It claims that recognition of a Palestinian state during the gathering would amount to “supporting our enemies” and undermine ongoing efforts to end the “war in Gaza” and secure the release of Israeli hostages.

France and Saudi Arabia, both close allies of the US, are co-hosting the event, with France reportedly pressuring the UK and European nations to recognize Palestinian statehood at the conference. This has sparked fierce US opposition, with Washington reportedly warning its allies not to proceed with such recognition despite demands from Arab states.

The US position stands in stark contradiction to decades of international consensus recognizing the territories of East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza—occupied by Israel in 1967—as the rightful heartland of a future Palestinian state.

Yet, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee bluntly declared to Bloomberg News that a Palestinian state in the West Bank is “no longer a US policy goal,” callously suggesting that Israel’s “Muslim neighbours” should sacrifice their own lands instead.

The memo stressed that “unilaterally recognizing a Palestinian state would effectively render October 7 Palestinian Independence Day” — reflecting the entrenched US-Israeli mindset that treats every day as October 7 and labels any pro-Palestinian voice as a Hamas fighter.

In the same vein, the US recently condemned the coordinated move by the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Norway to sanction far-right Israeli ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir — the latter who has been convicted of terror-related charges by Israel itself.
