Moroccan international Othmane Maamma is set to join Watford within hours, per multiple reports.

The 19-year-old winger is completing his medical ahead of a four-year deal with the Championship side, after Watford agreed a transfer fee with Montpellier, according to L’Equipe.

Maamma, who tallied 2 goals and 1 assist in 14 Ligue 1 appearances last season, stood out despite Montpellier’s relegation to Ligue 2.

The Moroccan U21 international had also attracted interest from German side Freiburg, reportedly willing to offer around $3.25 million for the final two years of his contract. But Watford moved quicker, securing the player as part of their bid to return to the Premier League.

Primarily a right-winger but capable across the front line, Maamma is expected to be Watford’s first major signing under Tom Cleverley following last season’s 14th-place finish.

The club is also in advanced talks for Metz attacker Papa Diallo, with a $5.5 million deal said to be close.
