Barcelona have cancelled their pre-season friendly against Vissel Kobe in Japan due to what the club described as a “serious breach of contract by the promoter”
The Spanish club was due to fly to Asia this Thursday, with the match scheduled for Sunday. According to AS, the promoter failed to pay the full amount of the agreed fee, from which Barça were expecting at least €15 million.
“Only a portion has been received,” the club said in a statement. “As a result, FC Barcelona have been forced to suspend their participation.”
The club has apologised to its fans who were looking forward to the match and expressed regret over the incident and its impact on Barça supporters in Japan.
“The club will consider re-adjusting this leg of the summer tour if certain conditions are met by the promoter,” they added. “If these conditions are met, the team will travel to South Korea in the coming days.”
Despite the cancellation of the Vissel Kobe friendly, two friendlies in South Korea are still scheduled on July 31 and August 4, but also remain under review.
