Qatar came under direct Israeli fire earlier this week, with six people killed in a strike on Doha that drew swift outrage across the region.
The attack cast a shadow over an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, as Qatar’s leadership demanded accountability for what they denounced as a crime of state terrorism.
The Qatari government strongly condemned the “cowardly” attack, describing it as a blatant violation of international law and interference in the sovereignty of states.
Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani walked alongside grieving families at the funeral of the six victims, while Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani declared that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must face justice.
Israel Occupation Forces (IOF) struck Qatar under the pretext of targeting Hamas leaders in Doha, even as they pressed ahead with their bloody genocidal campaign on Gaza.
Medical sources told Al Jazeera that Israeli attacks across Gaza since dawn have killed at least 43 Palestinians, including 31 in Gaza as the occupation forces intensified their attacks on the enclave’s largest urban area.
Among the dead were at least 15 people who had been seeking aid.
Humanitarian and rights organisations condemned Israel’s mass expulsion order as a death sentence.
Families who fled north Gaza now crowd into an already devastated south, where shortages of food, water, and medicine worsen by the day. Aid workers warn there is no safe place left.
Since October 2023, IOF attacks have killed at least 64,656 Palestinians and wounded more than 163,500. More than 200 people have already died from starvation or malnutrition.
Regional allies vowed to rally behind Qatar in the face of Israel’s attacks.
Morocco strongly condemned the strikes, denouncing them as heinous and a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty.
Rabat reaffirmed its full solidarity with Doha in the face of ‘anything that may undermine its security, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens and residents.’”
