Rabat – The General Directorate of Meteorology has announced that strong thunderstorms, accompanied by wind gusts, are expected today, Tuesday, in several parts of Morocco.

In a special weather alert, classified at the “orange” warning level, the Directorate said that heavy local showers of 20 to 30 millimeters could fall. These storms may also bring strong winds.

The affected areas include the provinces of Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Zagora, and Aousserd. The thunderstorms are expected between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m. today.

This change in weather comes after more than a week of stable, sunny, and calm conditions across most of the country.

The rainfall will be welcomed, as Morocco has been facing a prolonged drought that has strained water resources and affected agriculture.
