Rabat-  OCP Nutricrops, OCP Green Water, and INNOVX announced the signing of two memoranda of understanding as part of their commitment towards sustainable water and agriculture.

In a joint statement this week, the three parties described the two agreements as a landmark development in their mission towards sustainability. The two agreements’ goal is to advance industrial-scale valorization of captured CO₂ at the Jorf Lasfar industrial platform.

This means that the three partners will team up to transform CO₂ into solutions for water and agriculture.

The first agreement between OCP Nutricrops and OCP Green Water is set to enable the two parties to utilize CO₂ from Manufacturing SBU’s industrial platforms to support desalination initiatives. This emphasizes the importance of CO₂ and its role in desalination, which could help adjust pH and make water suitable for domestic and industrial use.

The statement recalled that this project is in line with OCP’s Green Investment Program, which seeks to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. The goal is to source 100% of its energy from renewables by 2027.

Ahmed Znibar, Managing Director of OCP Green Water, echoed the same sentiment, saying the agreement reflects OCP Green Water’s commitment to sustainability.

“By valorizing captured CO₂—used in processes such as pH adjustment and remineralization—we ensure a reliable and sustainable non-conventional water resource serving industry, cities, and agriculture,” he said.

As for the second agreement, between OCP Nutricrops and INNOVX,  the goal is to use captured CO₂ to focus on advancing innovation in agriculture.

“Starting in 2027, some fertiliser production units will be equipped with carbon-capture modules, with a significant annual CO₂-capture capacity,” the statement said, adding that the volumes will not only meet OCP Green Water’s needs for its desalination projects and INNOVX’s production of carbon-based, sulfur-rich solutions.

The goal is to also serve Morocco’s wider industry by providing a new source of carbon input.

Youssef El Bari, CEO of OCP Nutricrops, celebrated the signing of the MoUs, describing it as a “significant step,” stressing the group’s commitment to “embed sustainability across every aspect of its operations.”

“Agriculture today faces unprecedented challenges, from feeding a growing global population to adapting to climate change,” he said.

He added that the agreement is a significant step in Nutricrops’ decarbonization journey and Morocco’s desalination ambitions and industrial growth.

As for Amine Houssaim, CEO of INNOVX, he said that the signed agreements reflect “our dual ambition to support our ecosystem by unlocking the latent potential of mineral resources and to deliver sustainable solutions such as low-carbon fertilizers.”

Ahmed Mahrou, Managing Director of Manufacturing SBU, also commented on the signing of the agreement, saying that the ambition is clear: The goal is to reach “carbon neutrality for Scopes  1 and 2  by 2030, and across all three scopes by 2040.”

“Together with our partners, we are building a new model of sustainable manufacturing that supports global agriculture,” he concluded.

The joint statement said that the agreements come amid population growth and other challenges like climate change and rapid urbanisation.
