Fenerbahçe face mounting social media scrutiny as striker Youssef En-Nesyri wipes all club-related posts from his Instagram account before putting them back, following criticism over his recent form.
The Moroccan forward’s move comes shortly after English left-back Archie Brown, 23, deleted all photos from his profile following fan backlash after the Samsunspor draw. Both clean-ups have fuelled talk of a growing crisis within the club’s online presence.
En-Nesyri, 28, had started the season brightly, netting five goals and providing an assist in his first nine matches. But the striker has gone five games without a goal, last finding the net against Alanyaspor on 17 September. Missed chances and quiet performances have made him a focus of fan criticism, prompting him to step back from sharing Fenerbahçe content.
According to Türkiye Gazetesi, En-Nesyri now regrets staying at the club despite offers of €30m last season and €40m this year. Mourinho’s approval kept him at the team, but following poor displays against Nice and Samsunspor, speculation has mounted over a possible winter exit.
Former Beşiktaş midfielder Sinan Engin added fuel to the fire, claiming En-Nesyri cannot be compared to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who has impressed since his summer move, and questioning the Moroccan’s ability to lead Fenerbahçe to a Super Lig title. “Fenerbahçe cannot win the championship with En-Nesyri. This man is not even half as good as Icardi and Osimhen,” Engin told Beyaz TV.
So far this season, En-Nesyri has scored four times in eight league appearances, with Fenerbahçe six points behind Galatasaray. Last weekend, he failed to score as the team drew 0-0 with Samsunspor, while Osimhen continued his fine form, netting the only goal in Fenerbahçe’s 1-0 Champions League win over Liverpool on Tuesday.
The club now faces questions both on and off the pitch as En-Nesyri considers his next move and fans watch closely.
