Rabat – Russia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov has commended Morocco’s approach in support of efforts seeking to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Lavrov made his remarks in a joint press conference with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, on Thursday in Moscow.
“We discussed in detail the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Morocco traditionally plays a very important role in supporting efforts for the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue,” Lavrov said.
Lavrov also expressed satisfaction with the ceasefire agreement as part of the first phase of the deal achieved by Israel and Hamas.
“We hope that the agreements reached will be strictly implemented, including in light of the outcomes of the October 13 Sharm El Sheikh-Peace Summit,” Lavrov said.
The Russian high-level diplomat conveyed his country’s support for a sustainable flow of humanitarian aid in Gaza as well as a large-scale reconstruction of infrastructure destroyed during the genocidal war launched by the Israeli Occupation Forces on October 7, 2023.
“These are serious issues, and it is crucial to address them without undermining full implementation of UN resolutions on the establishment of a Palestinian state,” the Russian diplomat added.
Bourita also re-conveyed Morocco’s satisfaction with the agreement adopted by Hamas and Israel.
“We also discussed the Middle East. We agreed closely on welcoming what US President Trump did to establish a ceasefire and allow humanitarian aid,” Bourita said.
He reiterated Morocco’s hope to see all parties respect all terms of the agreement and open a political horizon for a fair and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.
Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s support for the two-state solution as the only framework for just peace, establishing a Palestinian state with the June 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.
