Rabat – The GenZ212 movement has issued a new statement reaffirming its demand for the immediate release of all individuals detained during recent peaceful demonstrations.

The group expressed “deep appreciation” for what it described as a growing wave of solidarity among civil and human rights organizations inside and outside Morocco.

The statement welcomed the quick and responsible reaction of national and international groups to its earlier call to form a united front in defense of those detained during the youth-led protests.

GenZ212, which has become a key voice among young Moroccans demanding reform in education, healthcare, and governance, emphasized that its detained members “were not arrested for a crime, but for peacefully demanding their basic rights.”

The movement also commended the recent mobilization of detainees’ families, describing their initiative as “a fundamental part of this struggle.” It urged other families “still hesitant” to overcome fear and join collective efforts to advocate for their children’s freedom.

Reiterating its “unwavering demand” for the release of all those arrested during peaceful demonstrations, GenZ212 announced its support for the initiative launched by the “Families of Social Protest Detainees” and the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) Marrakech-Menara branch.

The movement called on citizens of Marrakesh to join the peaceful sit-in scheduled for today at Bab Doukkala Square at 5 p.m.

“Our struggle continues until all just demands are fulfilled,” the statement concluded.

The GenZ212 movement emerged as a youth-led initiative advocating for social justice, equality, and systemic reform in Morocco.

Primarily composed of students and young professionals, the group gained national attention through peaceful demonstrations calling for better public education, improved healthcare services, and stronger measures against corruption.

Their mobilizations, often organized through social media, drew thousands across several cities including Rabat, Casablanca, and Marrakech.

While the movement insists on its non-violent and civic nature, recent protests have led to several arrests, prompting widespread concern from human rights groups and civil society organizations about freedom of expression and the right to peaceful assembly.
