Rabat – Morocco entered the 5G era today as the country’s three main telecom operators –   Maroc Telecom, Orange, and inwi – officially launched the fifth-generation mobile network.

Maroc Telecom informed its subscribers of the rollout through SMS and social media, while Orange and inwi simultaneously announced extensive coverage across the country.

According to Orange, around 100 cities will immediately benefit from 5G, with gradual expansion planned to reach the entire national territory.

Inwi confirmed that its 5G network is available to all mobile customers “immediately and at no additional cost.”

The company clarified that existing SIM cards are already 5G-compatible, meaning users with 5G-enabled smartphones in covered areas can instantly experience the new connectivity.

To accompany the launch, inwi introduced new prepaid and postpaid plans designed for various data needs, along with the “5G i-Box,” a plug-and-play home Wi-Fi solution promising ultra-fast, stable, and secure internet for remote work, gaming, and streaming.

In the business segment, inwi Business unveiled its “5G Business Connect” solution, enabling advanced industrial applications such as connected machinery, remote maintenance, and “digital twin” systems under Industry 4.0 frameworks. Public services like telemedicine are also expected to benefit from the new network.

Meanwhile, Orange Maroc stressed that 5G will reshape personal and professional digital experiences.

For businesses, Orange underlined that the technology enables real-time collaboration, remote equipment control, process automation, and faster digitalization. “With ultra-fast and stable connectivity, companies gain agility, competitiveness, and innovation capacity, ready to face future challenges and explore new markets,” it said.

The operator noted that users only need a compatible device to switch to 5G, with tailored plans accompanying the transition.

The nationwide 5G rollout cements Morocco’s place among Africa’s digital frontrunners, driving innovation, inclusion, and competitiveness. The initiative not only strengthens sectors such as healthcare and education but also enhances Morocco’s appeal as a technology and investment hub.

Accelerated by preparations for major upcoming events, notably the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, the expansion aligns with broader efforts to upgrade national communications infrastructure to meet global standards in broadcasting and connectivity.
