Rabat – In a diplomatic address held in Rabat on Wednesday, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Peter Szijjártó, reiterated his country’s steadfast support for the Moroccan Autonomy, emphasizing Hungary’s long-standing embrace of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara region.

 

The top Hungarian diplomat conveyed this stance during a press conference following his discussions with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 

Szijjártó expressed confidence in the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as a reliable solution to the lingering Sahara dispute, underlining its alignment with UN resolutions. Hungary, known for its acute sensitivity to issues of territorial integrity and respect for state sovereignty, sees the Moroccan plan as a promising avenue for resolving the Sahara dispute.

 

“In our firm belief, the Autonomy Plan presented by Morocco offers hope for a resolution to this conflict while respecting the UN resolutions,” asserted the top Hungarian diplomat.

 

In further elaboration, Minister Szijjártó clarified that Hungary actively supports the Autonomy Plan on various international platforms. He specifically referenced Hungary’s recent intervention with the European Union’s Court of Justice on this matter, emphasizing his country’s commitment to maintaining its support for the Moroccanness of the Western Sahara region.

Hungary’s engagement with the EU Court of Justice underscores the country’s dedication to advocating for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, signaling its proactive role in the ongoing discourse surrounding the Western Sahara dispute.

 

Szijjártó concluded the press conference by reaffirming Hungary’s unwavering support for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative, solidifying the country’s commitment to contributing to the diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the complex issue.

 

Hungary’s reaffirmation of its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity comes as the Moroccan Autonomy Plan continues to gain momentum and emerge as the most viable and pragmatic route to a lasting political solution in Western Sahara.

 

As global discussions on the Sahara dispute continue, Hungary’s vocal support adds a significant layer to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the region’s future.
