Rabat – The Ministry of National Education has invited retired teachers’ associations to join an expanded support initiative in schools and preparatory institutions affiliated with the “leadership” program.
In an announcement posted on its official Facebook page, the ministry emphasized its intention to tap into the pedagogical expertise and field experience of retired teachers.
The ministry described this resource as a strategic asset that can significantly enhance student success and contribute to the development of public schools.
Retired teachers are encouraged to contact their nearest regional directorate to express interest in participating.
Explaining the rationale behind the initiative, El Houssine Zetit, Director of Primary Education Curricula, told SNRTnews that the move aims to benefit from the accumulated professional experience of retired teachers and to bolster ongoing educational support efforts.
According to Zetit, remedial classes will focus on helping students strengthen foundational skills, particularly during intensive support sessions at the start of the school year. These sessions, covering mathematics, French, and Arabic, are designed to address learning gaps from the previous year in subjects deemed essential for academic progression.
“These sessions target students who did not fully benefit during the first weeks of the school year,” Zetit explained.
“They will receive extended support throughout the year in small groups of 20 students, free of charge.” He also urged families to actively engage with the program, noting that “students cannot keep up with new learning while they lack basic skills.”
Teachers participating in the program will receive compensation for additional support hours outside regular school time, at a rate of MAD 100 ($10) per hour, with the opportunity to contribute up to 10 hours weekly.
In cases where teachers are unable to participate due to prior commitments, trainees from regional education and training centers, retired teachers, and students specializing in educational sciences may be called upon to fill the gap.
The ministry clarified that all participants from these groups will first undergo specialized training to ensure they are adequately prepared to provide effective educational support.
