Rabat – Local authorities in Safi have reaffirmed their full readiness to respond swiftly following heavy rainfall recorded in recent days, mobilizing all available resources to protect residents and closely monitor the situation to prevent a new disaster in the region.

Public authorities remain on high alert as intense precipitation continues to affect the area.

Human and material resources have been fully deployed to ensure public safety, anticipate potential risks, and intervene rapidly when necessary. Continuous monitoring by civil protection services and relevant institutions aims to prevent any deterioration of conditions on the ground.

The heightened state of vigilance follows the devastating floods that struck Safi on December 14, which claimed at least 37 lives and caused extensive damage to infrastructure, roads, and transport networks. Since then, the region has been placed under maximum alert.

To strengthen prevention efforts and improve emergency coordination, the Ministry of the Interior has instructed the establishment of regional and provincial vigilance committees.

These committees bring together local authorities, technical services, civil protection units, and agencies responsible for water management and infrastructure.

Their mandate includes the continuous monitoring of waterways and flood-prone areas.

The committees are also tasked with early risk detection, efficient mobilization of human and logistical resources, and coordinated interventions to ensure the protection of residents.

Local authorities are working closely with municipal councils and central government services to prevent further flooding and reduce the impact on the population.

The overarching objective remains to provide assistance to affected families while rigorously preventing the recurrence of a large-scale disaster in the region.

Under royal instructions, a rehabilitation and reinforcement program has been launched. The initiative includes emergency aid for families who lost personal belongings, repairs to damaged homes, and the reconstruction, restoration, and rehabilitation of affected businesses, alongside support for their owners.

In parallel, meteorological and hydrological monitoring teams have been deployed to anticipate any new rainfall episodes and activate emergency measures without delay.

Through this coordinated response, the Safi region remains under close surveillance and prepared to face further climatic events.
