Rabat – Morocco’s National Meteorology Directorate (DGM) has forecast turbulent weather from Friday through Monday due to a new Atlantic weather disturbance approaching the country’s Atlantic coasts.

Hussein Youabed, Head of Communication of DGM, told SNRTnews that the upcoming system is expected to bring rain and showers to northern and central regions, extending to the northern parts of the southern provinces.

The disturbance will also cause strong winds along the northern and central coasts, as well as cold weather across the Atlas Mountains, Rif region, and high plateaus.

“The exact rainfall amounts will be determined closer to the arrival of the system, as measurements vary from one disturbance to another,” Youabed added.

Before the low-pressure system hits, Morocco is expected to experience cold to very cold weather on Tuesday, with frost forming in the Atlas, Rif, and high plateaus.

Cloudy skies with occasional rain or showers are anticipated in the northern half of the country, including the Atlantic plains north of El Jadida.

Meteorological data indicate that the Atlas, Rif, Saïss region, and the phosphate and Oulmes plateaus will see night-time rainfall, with a possibility of snowflakes on Atlas peaks.

Relatively strong winds are expected along the northern Atlantic coasts, while temperatures are forecasted to range between -9°C and 1°C in the Atlas, -1°C to 9°C in the Rif and eastern and southeastern regions, 8°C to 13°C in the south and coastal areas, and 4°C to 8°C elsewhere, with relative stability or a slight increase in some areas.

On Wednesday, cold to very cold conditions will persist, with frost forming again in the Atlas, Rif, and high plateaus.

The skies are expected to be cloudy with rain or showers across the Rif, Middle Atlas, northern plains, Saïss, phosphate and Oulmes plateaus, Mediterranean coasts, and eastern regions, while temperatures remain stable or slightly higher.

By Thursday, cold to very cold weather will continue, especially over the Atlas and eastern high plateaus, with mostly cloudy skies in the southern provinces.

Relatively strong winds are expected on the northern Atlantic coasts, the Atlas, central coasts, central regions, and northern parts of the southern provinces. Temperatures are expected to rise compared with previous days.

The DGM urges citizens to stay updated with the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions as the Atlantic disturbance approaches.
