Agadir – Ramadan 2026 in India is expected to begin on February 19, although the exact start will depend on the sighting of the crescent moon, which traditionally determines the beginning of the Islamic lunar month.

Religious authorities and astronomical forecasts generally align around this date, but final confirmation typically occurs only after moon observation on the evening before the expected start.

Along with all parts of the world Indian Muslims observe Ramadan as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and charity. Muslims fast daily from dawn to sunset, beginning with the pre-dawn meal known as sehri (suhoor) and breaking the fast at sunset with iftar.

The period is also marked by increased recitation of the Quran, nightly prayers such as Taraweeh, and charitable giving through Zakat and Sadaqah.

According to published Ramadan timetables for 2026, fasting on the first day in parts of India is expected to begin around 5:36 a.m. (sehri cutoff) and end around 6:15 p.m. (iftar), with daily timings gradually shifting through the month.

These times vary slightly by city due to geographical differences but follow the same sunrise-to-sunset fasting structure.

Ramadan typically lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the next moon sighting. For 2026, Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival marking the end of Ramadan, is expected in India around March 20 or March 21, subject to lunar observation.

Eid celebrations traditionally include special communal prayers, festive meals, gift exchanges, and the distribution of Zakat-ul-Fitr charity before the prayer.

Although Ramadan is not officially a public holiday in India, it is widely observed across the country’s Muslim communities. In 2026, the expected start date coincides with Shivaji Jayanti, which may influence local closures or schedules in some regions.

Ramadan remains one of the most spiritually significant periods for Muslims in India, combining religious devotion with strong community traditions centered on fasting, prayer, and acts of generosity.
