Rabat – The US has suspended operations at its embassy in Kuwait as security concerns grow across the Middle East following Washington’s military attacks against Iran and Tehran’s missile and drone attacks targeting countries in the region.

In a statement released Thursday, the US Department of State confirmed that the embassy halted activities while authorities monitor the evolving security situation.

“While there have been no reported injuries to U.S. personnel, the safety of Americans abroad remains the highest priority of the U.S. Department of State,” the statement said.

The decision comes as tensions intensify after the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran. In response, Iran carried out missile and drone attacks that have raised fears of broader regional instability.

US authorities urged American citizens currently in Kuwait to leave the country if they can travel safely using commercial flights or other available transport. Those who cannot depart should remain sheltered in place until conditions improve.

The State Department also maintained its travel advisory for Kuwait at Level 3: Reconsider Travel, advising Americans to check the latest updates and country information on its official website.

Officials said US citizens who require urgent assistance, including consular services or information about departure options, can contact the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs around the clock.

Washington also encouraged Americans to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a system that allows citizens abroad to receive security alerts and updates from nearby US embassies or consulates.

The suspension of operations in Kuwait follows a series of similar measures across the region.

Since the start of the war, Washington has closed several diplomatic missions and previously ordered the departure of non-essential staff and their families after Iranian missile and drone launches heightened security concerns.
