Rabat – Former Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez, revealed he has received several offers to return to management, including one from Morocco.

Speaking to La Vanguardia, the Spanish legend explained that he is now more interested in leading a national team rather than a club.

Xavi said the demands of club football make it difficult to balance family life. “I’ve had some offers, one from Morocco and others from different countries.”

He continued: “Coaching a club is very intense, and it’s hard to manage with family responsibilities. That’s why I’d like to try with a national team.”

He covered the advantages of working with a national side.

“With a national team, you get more time for training, more time for family, and the opportunity to take part in the World Cup, the Euros, or even the Africa Cup of Nations. These projects excite me. With proper preparation and less stress, it’s something I’d enjoy,” Xavi added.

The former midfielder stressed that club management involves constant pressure that he no longer seeks. “Coaching a club is heavy pressure, and it’s not what I want now,” he concluded.

There had long been speculation that the Moroccan Football Federation had been negotiating with Xavi Hernandez ever since news of Walid Regragui’s departure, and the former Barcelona coach has now confirmed those talks.

However, on March 9, Morocco officially announced Mohamed Ouahbi as the new head coach to replace Regragui, who had led the Atlas Lions since 2022.

Regragui guided Morocco to historic success at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reaching the semifinals, but his tenure ended after mixed results in recent competitions.

The Moroccan Football Federation moved quickly to appoint a successor, aiming to build momentum ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by US, Canada and Mexico.
