Rabat – Israel’s National Security Ministry, led by the far-right figure Itamar Ben Gvir, has revealed plans to purchase and distribute 10,000 guns to “civilian security teams” across Israel, including areas in the occupied West Bank. The announcement comes amidst escalating tensions in the region, sparking fears of further escalation.

According to a report by the Times of Israel, approximately 4,000 of the firearms have already been acquired, with the intention of distributing them to Israeli towns located near border regions.

However, the plan also includes delivering weapons to illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, further straining the already volatile situation in that area. Additionally, mixed Palestinian-Jewish cities within Israel, such as Haifa, are set to receive a portion of the arms cache.

Itamar Ben Gvir, a hardline Jewish settler who has faced past convictions for supporting terrorism and incitement against Palestinians, defended the controversial initiative. “We will turn the world upside down so that towns are protected,” Ben Gvir declared. “I have given instructions for massively arming the civilian security team.”

Critics argue that arming civilians in such a volatile environment could lead to increased violence and casualties, further complicating efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region. The move has also raised concerns internationally, with many countries and organizations urging restraint and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions.

As the situation continues to escalate, the Palestinian Health Ministry, along with the World Health Organization, is calling for the establishment of a humanitarian passageway “to ensure the entry of urgent medical assistance” into Gaza.

Hospitals in the region have been overwhelmed by the recent surge in violence, and the need for immediate assistance has become paramount.

As of the latest reports, the death toll stands at 770 Palestinians in Gaza and over 900 individuals in Israel, underlining the urgency of addressing the ongoing conflict and finding a peaceful solution to prevent further loss of life.

International efforts to mediate and de-escalate the situation are ongoing, but the region remains on high alert as tensions continue to simmer.
