Tetouan – In a bid to close the gap with leading rivals, SpaceX is exploring a major deal with Cursor that could reshape competition in artificial intelligence programming.

According to The Guardian, the proposed agreement gives Elon Musk two options: a full acquisition of Cursor valued at around $60 billion, or a strategic partnership worth $10 billion.

Both scenarios aim to strengthen SpaceX’s capabilities in AI-powered software development at a time of rapid industry growth.

In a statement shared on X, SpaceX said the two companies are already working closely to build advanced AI tools for programming and broader knowledge-based tasks.

Shaping the next phase of the technology race

The move comes as SpaceX prepares for a potential public offering later this year and continues integrating its operations with xAI, Musk’s AI venture.

The deal also follows recent internal changes at xAI. Notably, Musk has acknowledged that the company is behind competitors in developing coding tools and has pledged a full rebuild.

The restructuring included layoffs and a renewed push to recruit top engineering talent, including hires from Cursor.

Founded in 2023, Cursor has quickly become one of the fastest-growing startups in the sector.

Its AI assistant helps developers write and debug code more efficiently, placing it at the center of a growing shift toward interactive programming tools.

The company had been in talks to raise about $2 billion at a valuation exceeding $50 billion, with interest from investors such as Nvidia and Andreessen Horowitz.

Competition in AI coding is intensifying. Companies like Anthropic and OpenAI are expanding their offerings, pushing rapid innovation in tools designed to simplify and accelerate software development.

Cursor’s leadership has signaled optimism about the potential partnership.

The company has primarily pointed to SpaceX’s large-scale computing resources as a key advantage that could help expand its AI models and accelerate growth.

If completed, the deal would mark one of the largest moves yet in the fast-evolving market for AI-driven programming tools, highlighting the strategic importance of software automation in the next phase of the technology race.
