Rabat – Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Morocco’s Minister of Finance and Economy, has highlighted the country’s successful implementation of extensive health coverage and a substantial 5% pension increase for retirees over the past year.
Minister Alaoui made her comments this week as Morocco’s National Social Security Fund (CNSS) celebrated a year of remarkable achievements for projects launched in 2022, a year marked by significant expansions and improvements in the Council’s services.
She lauded the Council’s work during a recent meeting on the achievements and challenges of the Moroccan social security sector, emphasizing their dedication to ensuring social security for all segments of society, Morocco’s state news agency reported.
Foremost among these achievements is the successful implementation of a comprehensive health insurance program that now covers all categories of professionals, including self-employed workers and non-wage earners engaged in private activities.
This monumental step forward has extended the safety net of healthcare coverage to thousands of previously underserved individuals and families, enhancing their access to essential medical services.
Minister Alaoui also shed light on the substantial increase in pensions for retirees, a move aimed at improving the quality of life for those who have contributed significantly to society during their working years.
Retirees saw their pensions rise by an impressive 5%, with an additional provision that guarantees a minimum increase of 100 dirhams for each beneficiary. This crucial adjustment positively impacted the lives of 565,839 retirees across the country, demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting its elderly citizens.
The financial commitment to this pension increase amounted to a substantial 1.63 billion dirhams ($159 million), underlining the government’s unwavering dedication to securing the well-being and financial stability of Moroccan retirees.
