Rabat – Morocco’s King Mohammed VI  has congratulated Moroccan kickboxer Mohamed Touchassie after he won the GLORY light heavyweight world title at COLLISION 9 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

In a royal message, the King offered his warm congratulations to Touchassie following his victory in the eight-man light heavyweight Grand Prix.

King Mohammed VI praised the fighter’s commitment to Morocco and described the title as a major sporting achievement that raised the national flag on the international stage.

The monarch said Touchassie’s success confirmed the strong presence of young Moroccan athletes, particularly members of the Moroccan diaspora, in combat sports.

The King added that the victory strengthened Morocco’s record of international titles and could motivate Touchassie to pursue further success during his career.

He concluded by wishing the young champion continued achievement in his promising sporting journey.

Three victories in one night

Touchassie secured the vacant GLORY light heavyweight title after defeating three opponents during the one-night tournament at Rotterdam Ahoy on June 13.

The Moroccan began his campaign with a decisive victory over Azerbaijan’s Bahram Rajabzadeh in the quarterfinals.

He then defeated Cem Caceres in the semifinals before facing Donovan Wisse in the final.

Touchassie completed the tournament by beating Wisse by decision to claim the world championship.

The victory improved his professional record to 23 wins and three defeats, including 14 victories by knockout.

Youngest champion in division history

At 24, Touchassie became the youngest light heavyweight world champion in GLORY’s history.

The promotion praised his performance and pointed to the physical and mental demands of winning three fights against leading contenders in a single evening.

Touchassie, who was born in The Hague and represents Morocco, had previously challenged for the GLORY light heavyweight title in 2023 but lost to Donegi Abena.

His victory in Rotterdam marked a major comeback and established him among the leading Moroccan names in international kickboxing.
