Join on Telegram Rabat – Morocco’s medical biology expert Jinane Zouaki has been appointed as a corresponding academic member of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia.
With the appointment, Zouaki became the first Moroccan African woman to join the academy.
The appointment took place during a solemn welcoming ceremony held recently at the headquarters of the academy, Moroccan state media news agency MAP reported today.
Commenting on her appointment, Zouaki stressed that joining the institution represents a “great honor” and pride for her, for Moroccan women and for the whole country.
The appointment is also a “great responsibility” that the Moroccan biology expert seeks to dutifully assume and excel at.
“This distinction recognizes and confirms the merits of Moroccan women and the progress made in promoting the status of women in Morocco under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI,” she said.
She also expressed satisfaction for being the first Moroccan and African woman to integrate in the institution, which allows her to contribute to Morocco’s influence internationally.

During her admission speech to the academy, the Moroccan expert focused on measures taken by Morocco to tackle COVID-19, stressing that the North African country has “succeeded in facing an unprecedented pandemic that shook the whole world.”
Zouaki is a specialist in medical biology, medically assisted procreation, and reproductive genetics.
Originally from the northern Moroccan city Tetouan, the expert was the first Moroccan and African that received the Medal of Privilege from the University of Granada.
The award constitutes a recognition of the expert’s rich career in training and her commitment to scientific research.
Zouaki is also an activist who volunteered during the pandemic to help medical teams in the molecular biology laboratory in the Tetouan Saniat Rmel hospital during the pandemic.
During h the campaign, the expert worked to screen and train the teams. Her laboratory was among the first private laboratories to be selected to carry out COVID-19 tests during the pandemic in Morocco.
