Rabat – Among the many appointments made by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI during the Council of Ministers meeting on Friday, Tarik El Aroussi was appointed chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ports Operating Company.

Appointed at the recommendation of Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka, El Aroussi already has proven experience in managing Morocco’s ports.

The official has been serving as a member of the Tanger-Med port’s management board, in charge of the service division, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and International. He also served as the group’s Director of International Development.

El Aroussi graduated from the Higher Industrial Institute in Verviers in 1997 as an industrial engineer. He then went on to become a financial consultant at Plaut consulting in 2002.

During this time, he also obtained a Master’s Degrees in Business Administration from the University Paris Dauphine in 2003, and in Finance from Sciences Po in 2007.

He then worked as a Director of Strategy and Planning at the Agency for the Development and Promotion of the North until 2012, when he went to apply his skills at the Moroccan Tourism Development Fund as Head of Asset Management.

Starting in 2016, El Aroussi took on the position of Head of Asset Management at Ithmar Capital, an investment fund established in 2011 to support Morocco’s economic development.

His experience with Tanger-Med’s board should prove useful in El Aroussi’s new position managing Morocco’s ports authority.

The Tanger-Med port is regularly cited as one of the largest and most efficient ports in the Mediterranean region and worldwide. In 2022, the port ranked as the most efficient in North Africa and Europe by the global container port performance index (CPPI), as well as the sixth most efficient internationally.
