Rabat – Morocco assistant manager Joao Sacramento paid tribute to Lionel Messi on Wednesday, reflecting on his time working alongside Lionel Messi.
Sacramento stressed that Messi’s influence reaches far beyond his own era, having left an unforgettable mark in the history of global football.
In a lengthy post on Instagram paying tribute to the former Barcelona star, Sacramento underscored the Argentine’s everlasting impact on the sport.
“Leo left his mark on an entire generation, but his legacy goes far beyond any single era. He has left an indelible imprint on the history of football,” Sacramento posted.
Sacramento also reflected on his time working closely alongside the Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, sharing how witnessing Messi’s achievements firsthand sparked nostalgic memories of their shared moments.
“Seeing this tribute inevitably brought me back to a period I will always treasure in my memory—the time when I had the privilege of working with Leo, observing him daily, and sharing a part of his extraordinary career,” he added.
“When we get close to the greats, we realize that what the world sees on the pitch is only part of the story. Behind the genius, there is a deep passion for the game, an extraordinary footballing intelligence, and a constant drive to win.”
The assistant manager concluded his tribute with a personal word of gratitude, cherishing the everyday moments spent training alongside the Argentine star.
“As for me, I will also hold onto the training sessions and moments we shared, and above all, the privilege of having crossed paths with the greatest player ever. Thank you for everything, Leo… it was a privilege,” he concluded.
Messi played his final game for Argentina on Tuesday, ending an incredible 21-year international career. In front of a crowded stadium in Buenos Aires, Messi scored a goal and set up two others as Argentina beat Benin 3-0.
