Rabat – Marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, King Mohammed VI performed earlier this morning the Eid Al Fitr prayer at the Al-Mohammadi Mosque in Casablanca.
The monarch performed the Eid Al Fitr prayer accompanied by his son, and heir to the throne, Prince Moulay El Hassan; his brother, Prince Moulay Rachid; and his cousin, Prince Moulay Ismail.
In addition to members of the royal family, Morocco’s Islamic Affairs Minister, Ahmed Toufiq and Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch also performed today’s special morning prayer.
The King’s Eid al-Fitr observance also included his issuing of a royal pardon to 1518 inmates sentenced by different courts in Morocco.
Royal pardons are a part of a long-standing tradition in Morocco that is observed during significant religious and national holidays.
Yesterday, the monarch sent messages of congratulations to heads of state of Arab countries and Muslim countries around the world, wishing them and their peoples a blessed Eid.

Eid Al Fitr is a major Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramadan’s month-long fasting during which families and friends gather to perform special prayers at the mosque, donate money to those in need, and enjoy a lavish breakfast.
US President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau both shared their Eid Al Fitr greetings, emphasizing the importance and contribution of Muslim communities to the growth of their respective countries.
