Forbes: Nador West Med Reflects King Mohammed VI's Long-Term Vision

Rabat – Morocco’s Nador West Med port complex is emerging as a major infrastructure project aimed at strengthening the country’s position as a maritime, industrial, logistics, and energy hub connecting Europe, Africa, and international markets, according to US magazine Forbes.

In a recent report, Forbes described the project as a reflection of King Mohammed VI’s long-term strategic vision to expand Morocco’s maritime infrastructure, strengthen its industrial base, and capitalize on changes in global trade and supply chains.

The magazine highlighted the imminent launch of the first phase of the port’s main container terminal, which will complement the existing capacity of Tanger Med and expand Morocco’s ability to connect international markets.

According to Forbes, Nador West Med has attracted MAD 54 billion ($5.49 billion) in public and private investment to date.

The figure was also cited in a Royal Cabinet statement following a working session chaired by King Mohammed VI to review progress on the port and its associated industrial complex.

Morocco’s energy ambitions

Beyond its role in maritime trade, Nador West Med includes major energy infrastructure designed to expand Morocco’s import, processing, and storage capacities.

The complex features a hydrocarbon terminal with an annual processing capacity of 25 million tons and storage capacity of 400,000 cubic meters.

It also includes a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal designed to handle five billion cubic meters annually.

Forbes noted that these facilities could strengthen Morocco’s role as a link between European energy demand and expanding African energy markets.

The infrastructure is also expected to reinforce the North African country’s capacity to import and store natural gas, supporting its broader energy ambitions.

A strategic link between Europe and Africa

Forbes argued that Morocco’s investments in port connectivity, trade infrastructure, and regional integration are creating new opportunities for African economies while strengthening the country’s position as a strategic partner for Europe.

The magazine also highlighted Morocco’s efforts to anticipate changes in international trade and global supply chains through long-term infrastructure investments.

With Nador West Med complementing Tanger Med, Morocco is expanding its maritime network and strengthening its role in international logistics and energy markets.
