Rabat – Morocco’s national football team will face their Peruvian counterparts in a friendly match on March 28, Peru’s football federation announced on Saturday.
The game will take place in Madrid, following another friendly Peru is scheduled to have with Germany in the German city of Mainz.
The match will be the Atlas Lions’ first performance since they made history by reaching the semi-finals in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The two teams have only faced each other once in the 1970 World Cup, where Peru defeated Morocco 3-0.
Morocco recently dazzled the world at the World Cup, becoming the first African and Arab country to reach the competition’s semi-finals, before being eliminated by France.
The Atlas Lions finished the tournament in fourth place, after defeating some heavy-hitting teams in Belgium, Spain, and Portugal.
Following the competition, the team climbed up the FIFA men’s national team rankings to become the best 11th team worldwide, just shy of Spain in the top 10.
Peru, meanwhile, ranks in 21st place, according to the latest rankings from FIFA published last December.
