Rabat – Morocco has extradited Sebastien Raoult, a Frenchman wanted for cybersecrimes, to the US.
AFP said that the extradition took place today at the Casablanca airport on board a flight to New York.
“The operation was carried out by FBI agents,” a police source said.
Moroccan police arrested the French national in July 2022 on charges of involvement in cybercrimes in the US.
Raoult was on an Interpol red notice for alleged involvement in a cyber-piracy case, a Moroccan police source told Spanish media.
In August last year, a Moroccan court delivered a “favorable opinion” on the extradition of Raoult.
The young man’s father, Paul Raoult, denounced the Moroccan court, saying his son was “betrayed by France.”
“He was sold to the Americans. What is France waiting for to regain control of this file?” he said.
Sebastien’s lawyer, Philippe Ohayon, also denounced the US’ extradition request, claiming that the IP address from where the crimes were allegedly committed was traced to France.
With the US’ extradition request having been granted, Raoult now stands to face a harsh sentence that could reach 100 years of incarceration under the American penal code.
