Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology said that heavy rainfall and snowfall are expected to hit several provinces across Morocco from Tuesday to Thursday.

Snowfall is expected to range between 30-60 centimeters across the provinces of Ifrane, Sefrou, Boulemane, Khenifra, Guercif, and Taza from Wednesday at 12:00 a.m. to Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

The provinces of Al Hoceima, Midelt, Taourirt, Jerada, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Tinghir, and Ouarzazate will also experience snowfall ranging from 10 to 30 centimeters during the same period.

Starting Tuesday at 11 a.m. to Wednesday at 6 a.m. The provinces of Tangier-Asilah, Larache, Al Hoceima, Fahs-Anjra, Tetouan, Ouezzane, and Chefchaouen will experience rainfall ranging between 30 to 60 millimeters.

Rainfall ranging from 25 to 40 millimeters is also expected on Wednesday from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the provinces of Taza, Ifrane, Sefrou, and Fez.

Fairly strong gusts of wind between 60 and 75 kilometers per hour will affect the Rif, the Middle Atlas, and the Oriental region.

The recent rainfall is set to help revive Morocco’s agricultural sector, which was one of the hard-hit industries due to the recent drought.

Suffering from the severe drought over the past three decades, Morocco’s cereal production decreased by 67%  in the 2021-2022 agricultural season compared to the previous campaign.

In total, Morocco’s final production of its main cereals dropped to 34 million quintals in the previous agricultural season compared to 103.2 million quintals in the 2019-2021 season.

Morocco’s agriculture sector is one of the pillars of the country’s economy.

Morocco’s agriculture and agri-food exports stood at MAD 73.8 billion ($7 billion) at the end of November in 2022, the number is up from $5.97 billion recorded in 2021.
