Rabat – The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, appeared in a new video sharing the excitement and joy following Morocco’s win against Canada 2-1.
A video showing the Emir holding and waving Morocco’s flag following the win has gone viral on social networks.
This is the first time Morocco qualifies for the round of 16 since 1986.
The Atlas Lions made not only Moroccans proud but the whole Arab world after being the first Arab country to qualify for the knockout stage of the World Cup.

This is not the first time that the Emir of Qatar shows his support for the Atlas Lions. In the match against Croatia, the Emir and members from the Qatari royal family appeared in several videos cheering for Morocco and its win against Belgium 2-0 on November 27.
In addition to the current Emir, a video of former Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani holding the Moroccan flag also went viral during Morocco’s game against Croatia.
Morocco and Qatar share strong diplomatic ties strengthened by constant political dialogue and cooperation in different fields, including trade and security.
Morocco has extended constant support for Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup.
On Tuesday, King Mohammed VI called the Qatari Emir to congratulate him on the successful World Cup and wished success to the participating teams.
