Rabat – Strengthening its industrial presence in Morocco, Japan’s automotive supplier Yazaki on Wednesday inaugurated its fourth factory in the North African country. The factory will also be the company’s second factory in Kenitra, near Rabat.
Morocco’s Industry Minister Ryad Mezzour chaired the inauguration ceremony of the factory, which was completed with an investment budget of MAD 333 million ($30.1 million).
Mezzour said that the opening reflects a “renewed confidence of world leader Yazaki in Morocco’s industrial platform.”
The factory will produce parts to equip thermal, hybrid, and electric vehicles, reinforcing the transition of the automotive sector towards electrification and sustainable mobility, Mezzour said.
Chief Operating Officer of Yazaki Andreas Di Vice commented on the opening of the fourth industrial unit in Morocco, saying that the business conditions in the North African country offer exceptional support for new investments.
“Qualified, talented, and committed Moroccan employees represent motivation for Yazaki to develop its industrial footprint in the country,” the Yazaki official said.
Morocco considers the automotive industry one of the country’s main economic pillars. According to Morocco’s High Commission for Planning (HCP), the industry created over 200,000 jobs in 2021.
Morocco’s central bank, Bank Al-Maghrib said in July that exports from Morocco’s automotive industry are expected to grow to $5.2 billion in 2022. Car sales exceeded 160,000 units in 2021, while Yazaki’s presence in Morocco has grown to employ approximately 15,000 people.
