Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation announced on Saturday that it will soon be opening registration for a new college program centered around education.

Called the “renewed program to train a new generation of teachers,”  the initiative is part of the Ministry’s efforts to accelerate pedagogic reforms nationwide.

The program will teach a renewed pedagogic approach, according to the ministry, which aims to create educators for the primary and secondary levels.

The 3-year program will be open to those who obtained their baccalaureate in 2021 and 2022, as well as any other certificate recognized by the Ministry, said a press release, detailing the three pillars that the program will rely on.

To instill competency in pedagogic sciences and techniques, the program will explore educational psychology, sociology, education ethics, as well as pedagogy 4.0 to integrate digital technologies into education.

The program will also train more general skills in culture, art, as well as building a sense of national identity, belonging, and civil duty, the ministry said.

With digital learning gaining wide currency in Morocco, the program seeks to help students gain competencies in digital production and technologies, as well as distance learning tools.

Students will also receive monthly allowances of MAD 1000 if they engage in educational services for an institute during the time they’re pursuing the degree.

Applications for the program will be open from July 22 until August 31.

More attention has been paid in recent years to teacher training in Morocco.

In 2020, the US and Moroccan governments established the Higher Education Partnership–Morocco (HEP-M) to help improve the training of primary school educators.
