Rabat – Israeli forces killed three Palestinians in Jenin during a raid that targeted the eastern part of the city on Friday, injuring 10 others, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
Around thirty Israeli military vehicles raised Jenin in the early morning and surrounded a car before opening fire at the four men inside it.
Palestinian news agency Wafa named the three men that were killed as Yousef Nasser Salah, 23, Baraa Lahlouh, 24, and Laith Abu Srour, 24.
The fourth man sitting in the car was heavily injured.
The killing resulted in clashes between local youth and the Israeli forces, who fired live shots resulting in 10 more injuries. The wounded were then transported to a nearby hospital.
While no arrests were made, Wafa also reports that Israeli forces raided the home of a local family and “sabotaged its contents” during a search.
The Israeli army said the soldiers went to the Jenin neighborhood, which serves as a decades-old refugee camp for displaced Palestinians, to “locate and confiscate illegal weapons,” claiming that soldiers only fired in self defense after being targeted with explosive devices.
“After the exchange of fire, we located these two M-16 rifles, a “Carlo” submachine gun, loaded magazines & a military vest inside the vehicle,” a tweet by Israel officials claimed.
Israeli forces have recently ramped up raids in Jenin, in stated response to perceived growing Palestinian armed resistance.
Jenin also happens to be where iconic Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was shot dead last month while covering a raid by the Israelis.
