Rabat – Iconic Egyptian actor Samir died on Friday, May 20 after a long battle with illness.
The Alexandria-born actor was one of the veteran artists in Egypt, where he contributed significantly to its film industry.
Sabry,86, made many appearances, starring in well-known movies, including Hekayet Hob (Love Story) in 1959.
His filmography also includes big movie names, including “El Liss wa El Kilab” (The Thief and the Gods) and “Min Ghir Mi’ad” (Without Prior Appointment).”
Prior to his debut in the movie industry, Sabry worked in radio broadcasting. Following his graduation from the Arts-English department university, Sabry presented “A your request” Egyptian radio broadcast.
In February, Egypt President Abdel Fatah El-Sissi ordered that the treatment of Egyptian artists should be at the expense of the state.
Gulf News reported that Sabry “had been undergoing chemotherapy to treat cancer” over the last year. The news outlet said that the treatment left the “artist’s heart weakened” although he did defeat cancer.
