Rabat – The world’s second-largest chocolate producer, Ferrero, is recalling its Kinder Surprise eggs from the UK market, after being linked to more than 60 cases of Salmonella.
“We are voluntarily recalling selected batches of Kinder Surprise as a precautionary step, since we have become aware of a possible link to a number of reported cases of salmonella,” Ferrero said.
The press release stated that only Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs produced in Belgium have been recalled.
The products that Ferrero is recalling are the 20 gram and 20 gram x 3 Kinder Surprise eggs packs. The company also specified that only Kinder Surprise eggs that will expire between July 11, 2022, and October 7, 2022, are being recalled from the markets.
The notice from the British Food Standards Agency (FSA) from over the weekend is pinned to shops selling the product and also tells UK customers the best way to return the eggs.
Most of the 63 registered salmonella cases are in children aged five and under, the BBC reported on Monday.
More cases linked to the chocolate product are now appearing in Ireland, France, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands, the British broadcaster added.
