Rabat – All of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore announced Sunday, April 3 as the first day of Ramadan.
According to Hindustan Times, Malaysia and Indonesia will celebrate the first day of the holy month of Ramadan on Sunday after astronomers were not able to see the crescent moon today.
Channel News Asia (CNA) reported that the Mufti of Singapore declared Sunday as the first of Ramadan.
Mufti Nazirudin Mohd Nasir said that the crescent for the month of Ramadan is unlikely to be seen above the “horizon of Singapore at sunset on Friday”.
“This means that tomorrow (Saturday) is the 30th day of the month of Syaaban (sic). As such, I am pleased to declare that the beginning of Ramadan for 1443H falls on Sunday, Apr 3, 2022,” he said.
Many other countries are expected to celebrate the first day of Ramadan on April 3, including Morocco.
The North African country will sight the crescent moon for Ramadan this evening.
Other countries announced or will announce Saturday as the first day of Ramadan.
Australia’s Muslims will celebrate Ramadan tomorrow. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, among other countries are also expected to celebrate the first day of Ramadan on April 2.
Around two billion Muslims celebrate Ramadan across the world.
Ramadan is the holiest event in Islam. Muslims fast for 29 or 30 day during Ramadan.
