Morocco’s Atlas Lions football team has retained its position in the latest FIFA Ranking, as the second best team in Africa and 24th best worldwide.
The new ranking, which FIFA updated today, March 31, shows that Morocco gained four additional points, rising to 1,551 from 1547 as per the last ranking issued on February 10.
Senegal has retained its position as Africa’s top national team, less than 30 points ahead of Morocco, second in the list. Senegal, however, lost two places in the world’s ranking, with a total score of 1584 points.
Nigeria comes in third place in the African ranking, followed by Egypt Tunisia, and Cameroon.
Morocco’s Atlas Lions’ latest performances, especially after the World Cup qualification, have been key to retaining the team’s position as second in Africa.

Globally, the football hierarchy saw a major change in the first two leading positions. After months of dominance, Belgium dropped to second place behind Brazil, the current leader of the world ranking.
France retained its third position followed by Argentina, England, Italy, and Spain.
Earlier this week, Morocco’s Atlas Lions sealed their ticket for the 2022 World Cup by beating the Democratic Republic of Congo 4-1 in the second leg of the FIFA World Cup playoffs.
With this well-deserved victory, the national football team brought hope back to the Moroccan fans after its disappointing exit at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
FIFA’s new ranking brought Morocco into the third pot in the World Cup final draw. In the pot, Morocco appeared alongside Senegal, Iran, Japan, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, and Tunisia. The final draw is scheduled to take place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in Doha, Qatar, on April 1.
