Rabat – The Israeli Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita will visit Israel to participate in a series of diplomatic meetings as part of a two-day “historic diplomatic summit.”

The ministry said in a tweet that the summit, which is at the invitation of Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, will take place on Sunday and Monday.

The tweet added that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken,  and  UAE and Bahrain foreign ministers will also participate in the summit.

The Israeli foreign ministry’s tweet came after US-based news outlet Axios quoted US sources that confirmed Blinken will travel to Israel in the coming days.

The news outlet also reported that Blinken’s schedule will include a working trip to Morocco.

The summit Israel will host is amid efforts seeking to forge advanced cooperation with countries that signed the US-brokered Abraham Accords.

Morocco, UAE, and Bahrain are among the countries that agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations with Israel.

Morocco announced the re-establishment of relations with Israel in December 2020, with both countries determined to boost relations at all levels.

The US has been celebrating the re-establishment of relations between Morocco and Israel constantly.

On March 8,  US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman recalled her country’s support for the re-establishment of relations between Morocco and Israel.

During her visit, Sherman met with Moroccan FM Bourita, with whom she held talks on the Joint Declaration her country signed with Morocco and Israel on December 22, 2022.

The declaration praised the re-establishment of relations between Israel and Morocco and conveyed the US support for efforts seeking to ensure regional stability and security.

The three countries also emphasized determination to cooperate together in different fields, including counterterrorism, trade, military, and technology.

The summit in Israel will also serve as an opportunity for Morocco to discuss bilateral relations with its strategic allies, including the US, Bahrain, and the UAE.

The three countries support Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over Western Sahara.

UAE and Bahrain have both opened general consulates in Moroccan southern provinces, reflecting their unwavering support for the Moroccan position.

In December 2020, the US joined a lengthy list of countries supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity, recognizing the country’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.
